A question about pitch counts.?
During the course of a baseball game we know that a pitch count is accumulated comparing balls to strikes. My question is what are hits counted as. For example if a pitcher gives up 8 hits in a game, where do those 8 pitches show up in his pitch count.
dpgdawg, sorry if I wasn’t clear but I wasn’t talking about batter pitch counts at all. I know the difference. The first two answers actually gave me what I was looking for. Hits are counted as strikes in the baseball pitch count. Basically, there are balls and everything else is a strike. There are no wasted pitches in the pitch count. Strikes i believe, they call the foul balls strikes, and those are hit… so why not call fair balls strikes. I am 99.99999999% sure they are strikes, great question!
It seems that you’re trying to look at two separate issues and come up with the answer. I think that when you speak of COMPARING balls to strikes , you’re speaking of when there is a batter at the plate and he has a count of 2-1. Then you add in a pitcher gives up 8 hits. That’s in the Pitch Count and is a separate statistic. The Pitch Count includes EVERY pitch that a pitcher throws regardless of what happens to it. Strike , Ball , Foul , Bunt , HR , Triple , w/e. Every pitch is counted and that is the Pitchers Pitch Count. It is a totally separate thing from the Batter Pitch Count. Coaches like to keep track of the Pitchers total pitch count so that they don’t overuse a pitcher and wear his arm out.
Some baseball coaches actually include pickoff attempts, too.
a ball is a ball… obviously… a strike is a strike… again, obviously…. a foul ball… is a strike… again, obviously because it goes foul… a hit is considered a strike for the same reason as a foul… simply because you can’t condsider a batted ball a ball, as you can’t advance the count from 2b-1s to 3b-1s when the ball is live in play or even if it goes foul…

Can you name the three differences between the Red Sox home and away jerseys?
Best answer goes to the first person to get all three correct! home jersey is 1. White 2. says ”Red Sox” across the chest” 3. has two thin red stripes going down the button line in the front and around the collar
away jersey is 1. gray 2. says ”Boston” across the chest 3. lacks thin red stripes That answer is actually wrong…there is one more difference…as I put in my answer there are four differences…the three listed (which actually it should say the thin red stripes are on the sleeves for the away jersey) Report It
and on the back of the home jersey it has just the players number where on the away jersey it has name and number. Report It

Little League/Baseball Rule Question?
Only a runner on 3rd, 2 Outs, batter hits a grounder to shortstop, shortstop throws to 1st for the out but before the batterrunner is put out the runner crosses the plate from 3rd. Does the run count seeing as there was no force play? The key is first play from the fielder
Batter / runner out , No run scored, 1st play on the batter / runner was at first base for the 3rd out.
Even if the ball was hit to right field an the RF throws him out at first, same result
1st play for 3rd out and no run scores
Now if the batter / runner crosses first base and gets caught rounding the bag or runs threw the bag being safe and turns and makes an attempt to go to second and is tagged out
then the run will be counted, even though the the third out was made it was after he was safe at first. Although his answer in the end is correct, this stuff about the ”key” being the first play by a fielder is not correct. Report It
all they have to do to put first base runney out is touch base not runner.then run does not count.

As long as the guy gets thrown out at first, the run will not score, even if he crosses the plate before the throw to first is made.
The force is at first, the runner does not score. This is standard in any league.

Run doesn’t count! it doesn’t matter if the runner touched before the out or not, this counts for all ages, and leagues
It’s good that you realize the out at first is not a force out. Those who insist it is need to read the definition of ”force play” in Rule 2.00.
The run does not count, however, because the batter-runner failed to touch first base safely and was the third out.
No run as the third out was made by the batter-runner before he reached first base. That simple.
